ChatGPT Voice can now work with your email, calendar and Slack

Your staff are about to start running work tasks by talking to their phones. Plan for it before it happens on its own.

What happened

OpenAI upgraded ChatGPT Voice. According to The Decoder, it now runs on the GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna models and, for the first time, can use plugins like email, calendar and Slack. Users can look up calendar events, send emails, and ask ChatGPT to spot and cancel duplicate charges in finance apps, all by voice.

TechCrunch reports that the agentic voice features are coming to mobile. Plus and Pro users can use the Work tab on their phone to create a document, draft an email or summarise Slack messages, and can also build sites, create presentations and use the cloud browser. Free and Go users get access to plugins and connected apps. Conversations can start on a phone and continue on desktop.

My take

The interesting part is not the voice. It is that a consumer app now has hands inside the same tools your business runs on: inbox, calendar, Slack. That changes two things for operators.

1. Shadow automation gets easier. An employee can now say "email everyone on this thread and move the meeting" without anyone reviewing the flow. That is convenient, and it is also untracked. If you have not written down which accounts staff may connect to AI assistants, do it now.

2. The real work moves to the back end. Voice is a great front door for quick asks. It is a poor place to keep business rules. The durable setup is: the assistant captures the request, then hands off to a proper workflow in n8n, Zapier, Make or your CRM, where the rules, logging and approvals live.

A practical example: a field sales rep says "log this visit and book a follow-up in two weeks." The assistant captures it. Your automation updates the right CRM deal, checks the rep's calendar and posts a summary to the team channel. Same experience for the rep, but with an audit trail.
