Gemini Enterprise can now read and update your CRM through connectors. Where it fits next to your Zaps
Asking an AI to find a lead in your CRM is useful. Making sure every lead gets followed up is a different job.
What happened
Zapier published a guide to Gemini Enterprise connectors, the integrations that let Google's paid enterprise Gemini product pull from business systems like Salesforce, Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, SharePoint, Slack, Zendesk and Zapier itself. Key points from the guide:
- Connectors work in two modes: reading data to answer questions, and for some apps, taking actions like creating tasks, sending messages and updating records.
- Admins set connectors up, not individual users, and Gemini respects each user's permissions in the source system.
- Gemini Enterprise is separate from Google AI Pro and the personal Gemini app. Zapier notes Google Agentspace was renamed Gemini Enterprise in mid-2026.
- Zapier positions its own role as filling gaps: building deterministic workflows that run in the background and adding AI steps only where reasoning or classification is needed.
Google's own documentation adds an important detail. Connectors can either federate, meaning queries go out live to the third-party system, or ingest data into Gemini Enterprise data stores. With federated search, Google warns your query string, which can contain parts of the conversation, is sent to the third-party system and falls under that system's terms.
My take
This is a good step for teams already deep in Google Workspace. Being able to ask for a pipeline summary in plain English saves real time.
But conversational access is not a process. Here is how I would split it:
- Use Gemini connectors for lookups and one-off actions a person starts: find this account, summarize this ticket history, draft a reply.
- Use workflows for anything that must happen every time: new lead routing, follow-up sequences, stage changes, reporting. Those should run on triggers in Zapier, n8n or Make, with AI steps where judgment is needed, not wait for someone to ask.
- Decide federation versus ingestion on purpose. If client data is sensitive, read Google's note on what leaves your environment before you switch connectors on.
The best setups use both: chat for people, workflows for the system.
