Reddit is ending RSS on November 13 and public API access by March 2027. Audit your workflows now

If any automation you run reads from Reddit, it now has an expiry date.

What happened

Reddit announced it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, calling RSS a "common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse." For moderators, Reddit recommends Devvit apps such as Discord Relay, which can push posts, modqueue items and other alerts to Discord or Slack through webhooks. For RSS use outside a community you moderate, Reddit said there is no replacement.

The public API is closing too. According to Reddit's developer post, as reported by Unite.AI, new public API access requests stop after October 31, 2026. From January 12, 2027, Reddit begins removing access for apps that have not registered, and public access closes for all remaining apps in March 2027. TechCrunch notes this hits social listening products, research tools and AI assistants, which will need commercial deals for Reddit data. Reddit is offering $1,000 payments to eligible apps that migrate to its Developer Platform.

My take

This is the quiet kind of change that breaks things months later. A lot of small business automations lean on Reddit RSS: brand mention alerts, a Zapier RSS trigger feeding a Slack channel, an n8n flow that pulls niche subreddit posts for content research or lead signals. Nobody remembers they exist until the alerts stop and nobody notices for weeks.

What I would do this month:

  1. Search every Zap, Make scenario and n8n workflow for reddit.com URLs and RSS triggers.
  2. List what each one feeds and who relies on it.
  3. For mod alerts, move to Reddit's own Devvit tools. For monitoring, price a licensed listening tool or drop the feed.
  4. If you run a registered bot, register before January 12.
  5. Add a "no new items in X days" alert to every feed based workflow, so silent failures surface fast.

The bigger lesson: free data sources are getting locked down as their owners sell that data to AI companies. Build workflows that degrade loudly, not silently.

Finding and fixing these brittle dependencies is a big part of the automation work I do for teams. You can see how I approach it at romielwillautomate.dev.
